A Kiski Township man accused of attacking a police officer who went to his house to check whether he was in danger faces a felony charge of aggravated assault.
Travis Dewayne Sheaffer, 28, of Old State Road, also faces counts of simple assault, resisting arrest and harassment in connection with the May 20 incident.
He is being detained in the Armstrong County Jail in lieu of a $25,000 cash bond. A preliminary hearing on the charges was scheduled before District Judge James Andring on May 25 but the hearing date was rescheduled to June 29, court records show.
Kiski police said an officer was dispatched to Sheaffer’s house shortly before 9:30 p.m. to conduct a welfare check, according to authorities.
Investigators did not say who called them to request that an officer check on Sheaffer’s safety.
Police said Sheaffer was intoxicated when the officer arrived and became confrontational before hitting the officer in the head, causing a minor injury.
The officer used a stun gun to subdue Sheaffer and take him into custody.
