Police: Leechburg man accused of assaulting woman on a sidewalk
A Leechburg man is charged with assaulting a woman on a sidewalk and inside a residence in Leechburg, according to a criminal complaint.
Brad Lee Reidy, 21, was arraigned Wednesday and faces a felony strangulation charge and misdemeanor charges of simple assault and unlawful restraint from an incident Tuesday night.
According to a criminal complaint filed on May 5, Leechburg police Officer Miranda Tasker said she was dispatched about 10 p.m. to the police station on Market Street in response to a report of a man beating up a woman in public.
In court papers, police said the woman was confronted by Reidy while walking outside at night after her work shift.
According to the criminal complaint, Reidy grabbed her arm and forced her to go inside a residence on Third Street against her will.
According to police, the woman said Reidy “lost his mind,” verbally assaulted her and “choke slammed” her onto the bed multiple times.
The woman told police Reidy tried to prevent her from exiting the building and grabbed a knife as she attempted to leave the apartment and then followed after her.
In a statement to police, the witness said they saw Reidy push the victim onto a sidewalk on Third Street.
The witness stopped their vehicle and offered assistance to the woman, instructing her to get inside their car.
In the complaint, the witness said Reidy smashed his cell phone on the ground and later chased after the vehicle, kicked it and threw an object at the rear window.
The witness called 911 while driving the victim to the police station in Leechburg.
Reidy remains in the Armstrong County Jail after failing to post $20,000 bond.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 12 before District Judge James Andring in Leechburg.
