Police nab Allegheny Township man facing charges of leading cops on chase and carjacking

An Allegheny Township man accused of auto theft and trying to carjack another vehicle by assaulting the owner has been arrested, according to authorities.

Jeffrey Scott Nedley, 39, of the 200 block of McGeary Hollow Road, was charged with felony counts of aggravated assault and theft along with two counts of simple assault and a count each of making terroristic threats and attempted theft.

Nedley is in the Westmoreland County jail in lieu of a $50,000 cash bond. He faces a preliminary hearing before District Judge Cheryl Peck Yakopec on May 17.

Nedley, who also had two outstanding warrants for his arrest, was taken into custody by Vandergrift police on April 25.

One of the warrants was issued after Nedley failed to show up for a drug trial in Armstrong County; the other warrant was issued for failing to appear for a drug trial in Westmoreland County, according to authorities.

Kiski Township police also charged Nedley with fleeing from officers in a stolen vehicle shortly before 8:30 a.m. on April 8.

Police said Nedley was spotted driving a white Mitsubishi Endeavor that was reported stolen out of New Kensington in March.

The vehicle also had a license plate that was reported stolen out of Allegheny Township, police said.

The chase began along Garvers Ferry Road but was terminated for safety reasons, they said.

Kiski police filed seven charges against Nedley in connection with the incident, including felony counts of fleeing from police and receiving stolen property. He also faces charges of reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct.

A preliminary hearing on the charges filed by Kiski police has not yet been scheduled.

The felony aggravated assault, auto theft and related charges filed by Allegheny Township police are in connection with an April 22 incident at the Crossroads Motel on Route 356, according to a criminal complaint.

Investigators said a man called police shortly before 11:30 p.m. to report that he was assaulted when confronting a man looking into his parked vehicle, according to the complaint.

He told police the man, who was later identified as Nedley, had a knife and threatened to stab him if he didn’t hand over the keys, the complaint said.

When the man refused the order, Nedley punched him in the face with the hand in which he was holding the knife, police said.

The man told police that Nedley ran off into the woods across the street from the motel when the man we went back inside his motel room to call 911.
