Police: New Kensington man beat up woman who is 5 months pregnant
A New Kensington man is accused of beating up a pregnant woman so severely she had to be taken to a Pittsburgh hospital, police said.
Arnold police said the woman came to the door of the police department shortly before 3 a.m. Wednesday, crying with multiple bruises on both sides of her face.
The woman told police she had been assaulted by Leonard Robert Hayden Jr., 19, as they argued at a home along Constitution Boulevard, according to Hayden’s arrest papers.
The woman said Hayden pushed her through a plastic fence, knocking her to the ground. He then punched and kicked the woman in the stomach, face, and back multiple times, the criminal complaint said.
Police said they observed multiple bruises on the woman’s face, back and stomach area, according to the complaint. The woman also was complaining of severe stomach cramping, police said.
Police contacted paramedics when they found out the woman was 5 months pregnant, and she was taken to West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh. An update on her condition wasn’t provided in the arrest papers.
Hayden was arrested on charges of aggravated assault of an unborn child, aggravated assault, disorderly conduct and harassment. Police said Hayden also had warrants out of the Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office, but the complaint didn’t say what those warrants were for.
Hayden remained in the Westmoreland County Prison on Wednesday after failing to post $100,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is set for March 26.
