Police: New Kensington man accused of breaking into home, threatening care provider and others
A New Kensington woman accused a man for whom she provides care of assaulting her and threatening to shoot her and other staff at a residence that provides care for people with mental challenges, New Kensington police said.
Police charged Marvin Tyree Hall, 36, of Constitution Boulevard, New Kensington with a felony count of burglary along with lesser charges of simple assault, making terroristic threats, criminal mischief and harassment in connection with the Jan. 14 incident.
Hall is being detained in the Westmoreland County Jail after failing to post a $5,000 bond, court records show.
He faces a preliminary hearing before District Judge Frank J. Pallone Jr. on Jan. 27.
The woman told police that she provides personal care for Hall, who lives in an apartment in the rear of the residence owned by her mother, according to the criminal complaint filed for the case.
Investigators did not say how many residents or staff live or work on site.
The woman said she was providing care for Hall in his apartment when he became upset about the furnishings and they began arguing, the complaint said.
She told police that Hall pushed her and threatened to beat her up before other staff members came and pulled him away from her, the complaint said.
Hall followed the woman when she went to her mother’s house and broke the back door to get inside, police said.
The woman told investigators that she grabbed a meat cleaver to defend herself when Hall came in, the complaint said.
Hall is accused of giving the woman “a chest bump as he got in her face” and continuing to threaten to shoot her and the other staff, according to the complaint.
After calling 911, the woman tried to leave but Hall “came at her again” and pushed her into a dog cage that was near the front door, the complaint said.
The woman told police that her mother intervened and tried to get Hall to leave but he continued to threaten violence, according to the complaint.
Police said they found Hall on the porch of his apartment when they arrived. They say he admitted to breaking into the home, but denied making any threats, the complaint said.
