Police: New Kensington woman suffers cut on arm during domestic dispute

New Kensington police said they heard a woman screaming for help when they responded to a domestic dispute on Sixth Avenue early Saturday morning.

Police charged Richard Joseph Mautino Jr., 19, with simple assault and a summary count of harassment.

In a criminal complaint against Mautino, police said they went to the 500 block of Sixth Avenue shortly before 2:30 a.m. for a physical domestic.

When they arrived, police said they could hear a woman screaming for help. The woman was bleeding from a cut on her right forearm and had a 2-year-old girl with her.

The woman told police Mautino had locked her out, and that she cut herself when she punched a glass door to get in. Police said she had red marks on her chest and shoulders.

Paramedics treated the woman, who was taken to Allegheny Valley Hospital.

Police said Mautino answered a knock on the door saying he didn’t do anything, and yelled to the woman for her to tell police the same. Police handcuffed Mautino, who told officers a 4-month-old child was upstairs; an officer found the child on a bed, and placed the child in a car seat.

Police said they spoke with a witness, who claimed to have seen Mautino push the woman down onto bicycles laying in the yard, followed by the woman breaking the glass on the door after Mautino allegedly refused to open it.

Mautino did not have a lawyer listed in court records.

Mautino’s bond was set at $100,000 during an arraignment Saturday. He was sent to the Westmoreland County Prison.

Mautino is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Oct. 22 before District Judge Frank Pallone Jr.
