Police are seen at the scene of a fatal shooting in Arnold on Friday night. Investigators set up a small tent to shield the scene from steady rain that fell throughout the night.

A man was found fatally shot in Arnold early Friday evening, a Westmoreland County Public Safety supervisor said.

The victim was found dead by an Arnold police officer about 6 p.m. in the 1600 block of Cherry Alley, authorities said.

Westmoreland County Coroner Tim Carson identified the victim as Allen Lamont Austin, Jr., 29, from Pittsburgh.

Cause and manner of death is pending final autopsy results, toxicology results, and further investigation.

Toxicology results will not be available for several weeks.

Police blocked off Cherry Alley between Third and Fourth avenues. They set up a small tent in the middle of the street as they investigated during a steady rain.

An officer at the scene said the case is being investigated by Arnold police with the assistance of Westmoreland County detectives. Police from New Kensington and Upper Burrell also were on scene.

A distraught loved one of the victim was being comforted by others.

A Westmoreland County detective said no further information would be given Friday night, and a statement from the Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office would be released Saturday.

Police and other first responders cleared the scene at about 9:30 p.m.
