An Arnold man faces seven felony charges after police raided his home and found more than 4 pounds of marijuana, thousands of dollars in cash and several illegal guns, according to his arrest papers.

John Wermlinger, 53, of the 1500 block of Riverside Drive, was charged with five counts of illegal possession of a firearm, manufacturing with the intent to deliver drugs and receiving stolen property.

He also was charged with two misdemeanor counts of drug possession in connection with the Jan. 24 raid at his home, according to the criminal complaint in the case.

Wermlinger was released from the Westmoreland County jail on Thursday after a $50,000 bond was posted by a Pittsburgh bail agency. He faces a preliminary hearing before District Judge Frank J. Pallone Jr. on Feb. 3.

Arnold police officers and agents from the state attorney general’s office forced their way into Wermlinger’s house after knocking and announcing that they were executing a search warrant, the complaint said.

Officers detained Wermlinger and his sister, who was later released, and searched the downstairs where they found “various amounts of loose marijuana,” according to the complaint.

Police found a safe in the living room with six bags of marijuana totaling 4 pounds and $3,951 in cash inside. A digital scale, baggies and a pair of cellphones also were confiscated, police said.

When police searched the second floor they found a Rossi .38-caliber revolver in one of the bedrooms that was reported stolen in Arnold on July 10, the complaint said.

Three other pistols and a 12-gauge shotgun along with magazines and ammo for the weapons were confiscated from two other bedrooms, police said.

Investigators noted that Wermlinger is not allowed to possess a gun because of his felony convictions for statutory rape and corruption of minors in 1988 as well as aggravated assault in 2005.
