A New Kensington man wanted on multiple warrants now faces additional charges after police reportedly found cocaine on him when he was arrested Wednesday.

“That crack’s not mine,” Luther Boyd, 38, told police, according to a criminal complaint.

Boyd was arrested after a Lower Burrell patrolman saw him riding in an SUV. The complaint said the patrolman knew Boyd was wanted on multiple warrants out of New Kensington and pulled over the SUV. The warrants were for a criminal mischief charge and a PFA violation, according to Lower Burrell police Chief Tim Weitzel.

Boyd told police he was riding with a friend while she went to visit someone. The driver of the SUV told police she had picked up Boyd on Freeport Road in New Kensington, and he had asked her to bring him to a house in Lower Burrell, the complaint said.

The driver gave permission to search the vehicle, according to police. She told police her two children were in the back seat and she wasn’t aware of anything illegal inside.

The complaint said police found a glass marijuana pipe; a loose, chunky white substance; and a large baggie containing 15.5 grams of suspected crack cocaine. The suspected crack was hidden underneath the center console, police said. Boyd also had $855, which police said is consistent with cocaine sales, according to the complaint.

Boyd remained in Westmoreland County Prison on Thursday afternoon failing to post a combined $65,000 bail. He faces charges of possession with intent to deliver and drug possession.

The driver of the SUV wasn’t charged.

A phone message left for an attorney listed for Boyd wasn’t immediately returned Thursday afternoon.
