A Harrison man was speeding on Route 28 before a crash that claimed his life Tuesday, according to state police.

Charles A. Crowe Jr., 48, of Harrison, died at the scene of the one-vehicle crash shortly after 7:30 p.m. near Exit 15 in Harrison.

Police said Crowe had been traveling north when he lost control of his car and hit a guardrail.

Crowe was thrown from the vehicle and suffered “catastrophic injuries,” state police said.

“The crash report is still open pending the toxicology report, but it is believed that speed was a contributing factor for the crash and the operator was not wearing a seat belt,” Trooper Joshua Black said.

Duster Funeral Home in Tarentum is handling arrangements. According to his obituary, Crowe, a 1991 graduate of Highlands High School, lived his entire life in the Harrison area and was a union carpenter.

Crowe’s family did not respond to a request for comment placed through the funeral home.

Visitation is scheduled for 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Duster Funeral Home, 347 E. 10th Ave., Tarentum. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Park in Lower Burrell.

Survivors include a fiancee, Maggie Mrozinski; a brother, Darrel Crowe; sister, Dana McDaniel and nieces and nephews.

Crowe died a little more than three months after his father, Charles A. Crowe Sr., 67, who died May 12 at Allegheny General Hospital.
