Police say Springdale man out on bond for assaulting woman now accused of strangling her
A Springdale man who was out on bond and ordered not to have contact with a woman that police say he assaulted has been charged with trying to strangle her.
Adam Stavish, 34, of Duquesne Court was charged with a felony count of strangulation along with two counts of simple assault and a count of disorderly conduct.
He was being detained in the Allegheny County Jail in Pittsburgh in lieu of a $15,000 cash bond, according to court records. He faces a preliminary hearing on the charges before District Judge David Sosovicka on Sept. 5.
Police wrote in a criminal complaint charging Stavish that they were dispatched to his home Aug. 23 for a domestic violence call.
Police said the woman told them Stavish put his hand over her mouth and pushed her backward. She said his hand was held so tight over her mouth that she couldn’t breathe and nearly passed out, the complaint said.
Springdale police have responded to multiple calls in the past to Stavish’s house for domestic violence incidents, according to the complaint.
Police said Stavish was out on bond for a previous arrest involving the same woman and was ordered by a judge not to have contact with her.
Sosovicka ordered Stavish to stand trial on charges of simple assault and harassment filed by Springdale police last November.
Court records show Stavish was convicted in September 2012 of a felony count of criminal conspiracy that was filed by New Kensington police. He was sentenced to two years’ probation.
In 2017, Stavish was convicted of a misdemeanor count of receiving stolen property and was sentenced to one year of probation. Those charges were filed by Springdale police.
He also was convicted of harassment in January 2017. That charge was filed by New Castle police, court records show.
