A man was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital after being shot during an exchange of gunfire with police in Lower Burrell on Saturday night.

Police say the incident began around 6:30 p.m. Saturday when residents of Rodgers Drive reported a man firing shots into a nearby home.

The suspect is identified in court documents as Jordan Blaise Lindner, 29.

He faces felony charges of aggravated assault and discharge of a firearm into an occupied structure, along with a misdemeanor of reckless endangerment. A preliminary hearing will be scheduled at District Judge Cheryl Peck-Yakopec’s office.

Lower Burrell police did not immediately respond to requests for comment early Sunday.

When police arrived to the scene, they say Lindner exited his home and began yelling at police, including a plea to “just shoot me,” according to statement released by Lower Burrell police late Saturday.

Rodgers Drive is a dead-end residential street off of Leechburg Road near Glen’s Custard.

The Westmoreland County SWAT unit then responded and surrounded the residence. SWAT members tried to contact Lindner but he did not respond, according to police.

During the standoff, which lasted more than three hours, police say Lindner fired multiple shots through a window at SWAT members. They returned fire, striking Lindner, who was then taken into custody, ending the standoff shortly before 10 p.m.

Lindner was taken by ambulance to a landing zone, where he was taken by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital.

His condition was not known late Saturday, police said.

No police officers were injured.

During the incident, neighbors said police could be heard using a loudspeaker, instructing Lindner to exit the home with his hands in the air. Police said they had a warrant for his arrest.

Several loud bangs, possibly flash-bang grenades, were heard near the home, with a flurry of activity about 9:50 p.m., more than three hours after the incident began. Shortly after that, an ambulance arrived and was seen leaving the area with a police escort.
