The Armstrong County coroner said the man whose body was recovered Wednesday evening from a lake at the Apollo-Spring Church Sportsmen’s Club in Kiski Township died from a heart attack.

County Coroner Brian K. Myers said Timothy W. Brueggeman, 56, of Apollo died from a cardiac event while on the lake in a canoe.

Myers said it appears Brueggeman had the episode and then fell overboard. He said the autopsy showed no signs of drowning.

A fisherman called 911 after spotting an empty canoe and a jacket on the pond about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday. Officials said the call was related to a missing persons report made to Apollo police. According to Myers, Brueggeman’s family reported him missing to Apollo police the same day he died.

“He just hadn’t been seen in a few days from what I understood,” Myers said.

Apollo police could not be reached Thursday for further information.

An area dive team recovered Brueggeman’s body from the lake about 125 feet from the dock.

The Armstrong County District Attorney’s Office, the county coroner’s office and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission are aiding in the investigation. Fire departments from Armstrong County as well as Vandergrift and Markle assisted in the call.
