Crash causes outage, delayed start for Highlands Elementary
Highlands School District issued a two-hour delay for its elementary school in Tarentum on Tuesday.
According to the district, a crash late Monday evening caused a power outage. Power was to be restored by mid-morning Tuesday.
The delay affected only elementary students and staff.
HIGHLANDS ELEMENTARY FAMILIES: Due to an accident late last evening that caused a power outage that will not be restored until mid-morning, there will be a 2-HOUR DELAY for all ELEMENTARY students and staff ONLY today, Nov. 26. Bus pickup times will be adjusted accordingly.

Tarentum police Chief William Vakulick said the crash happened around 9:40 p.m. Monday, when a tractor-trailer tried to turn left onto Lock Street from East 10th Avenue. No other vehicles were involved, and no injuries were reported.
Two poles and power lines were taken down, he said.
As of about 6 a.m. Tuesday, traffic heading toward Harrison was restricted on East 10th, and Lock Street was closed between East 10th and East 9th avenues.
