Primary election winnows crowded Plum School Board field; Plum Council slates set

Two incumbents and several newcomers out of 12 candidates seeking Democratic and Republican nods for four Plum School Board seats were each successful in getting single party nominations, according to complete but unofficial returns from the Allegheny County Elections Division.

Board member Joe Tommarello was among four candidates selected on the Democratic side.

He came in third with 1,010 votes. Renee Richardson was the top Democratic vote-getter with 1,311 followed by Justin Newman with 1,011 votes and Melissa Russellwith 1,008.

Incumbent Angela Anderson earned 1,359 votes to take second on the Republican side. Ronald Sakolsky was the top GOP vote-getter with 1,691. Megan Chuderwicz came in third with 1,270 followed by Devin Adams with 1,227.

A dozen candidates had cross-filed for the May 18 primary election.

Plum Council

Two Plum Council incumbents — a former councilman and political newcomer — were both successful in obtaining Republican nominations for four borough seats.

Councilman Paul Dern was the top GOP vote-getter with 1,742, according to complete but unofficial returns from the Allegheny County Elections Division.

Former councilman David Seitz was second with 1,740 followed by incumbent Mike Doyle with 1,738 votes and Steven Robert Taylor with 1,665.

Former councilman Mike Dell fell short with 848 votes among the five-candidate race for four nominations.

Plum Democrats had four candidates seeking four nominations. Incumbent David Odom, Jennifer Lynn Pusateri, Michael Creighton and Justin Michael Tuskan will move forward on the November ballot.

Republican Mayor Harry Schlegel ran unopposed for his party’s nomination. He will face off in November against Democratic challenger Shawn Marcellino, who also ran unopposed in his party’s primary.
