Bon Air Elementary School Principal Amy Lenart greets students as they get off the bus for the first day of school Sept. 2. Lenart will resign from that position Jan. 15.

Amy Lenart, a principal at Burrell’s Bon Air Elementary School, will be leaving the school in January for another leadership role outside the district.

School directors this month accepted Lenart’s resignation, effective Jan. 15. Lenart has worked for Burrell for 23 years in both teaching and administrative roles, said Superintendent Shannon Wagner.

Most recently, Lenart served as principal of Bon Air alongside Jim Croushore.

“The decision to resign as principal was an extremely difficult one to make,” Lenart said. “I will miss so many things about Bon Air, but the students and staff will be the hardest to leave.

“The students are truly at the heart of everything we do here. Watching them learn, grow and care for one another has been a daily source of inspiration.”

Lenart said she was “moving on to a leadership role within another school” and did not elaborate.

“I feel incredibly fortunate to have worked alongside an exceptional staff whose dedication to children is unmatched,” she said. “Their commitment to supporting every student is what makes Bon Air such an extraordinary place.”

In addition to her role as principal, Lenart was also Burrell’s federal programs coordinator, Wagner said.

The district will likely advertise and hire an assistant principal at Bon Air, Wagner said. It is “absolutely necessary” to have two principals at the school because of students’ needs, she said.

“I will miss (Lenart) dearly,” Wagner said. “She is a member of the team and a valuable asset for us. This decision is good for her, but sad for us.

“I wish her the best.”
