Allegheny Township’s real estate tax rate will remain the same for 2022.
The township supervisors on Monday night gave final approval to a $5.03 million budget that keeps property taxes at 16.50 mills.
The tax rate for the general fund will be 13.35 mills, the fire services tax will be 1.15 mills and the debt service fund will stay a 2 mills.
It is the 12th consecutive year that the tax rate will be maintained.
The budget for the general fund will be $4.4 million; the fire services budget is $267,000; and the debt service fund will be nearly $362,500.
Because of a $490,000 carryover from this year to 2022, the township will not need to take out a tax anticipation loan.
The largest expenditure is $1.2 million for law enforcement services, which includes items such as police wages and equipment.
The township supervisors on Monday also approved paying $39,700 for a new Ford Interceptor police car bought through the state’s Costars program. Because of supply chain problems, the new vehicle is expected to arrive in about five months.
An enclosed equipment trailer costing $10,000 will be bought for the police department from Stivenson Camper Sales of Butler.
A total of $902,000 has been budgeted for the public works department, covering wages, road maintenance, winter road salt and summer paving.
Brett Robak will be hired for the public works department on Jan. 1.
He will be paid the starting rate of $21.86 per hour, which is 80% of the full-time rate. Robak’s wage will increase 5% every six months until he attains the full rate of $27.33 per hour.
