The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has scheduled an information session to update the public on its cleanup efforts at the nuclear waste dump in Parks Township.

The meeting is scheduled for June 11 at the Parks Township Fire Department, 1119 Dalmatian Drive. Doors will open for display stations at 6:30 p.m., and the briefing will run from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The meeting will update the public on the project’s status and upcoming site activities, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said. A question-and-answer period will follow the briefing. The public can submit questions before the meeting by emailing CELRP- PA@usace.army.mil or by calling 412-395-7500.

Between 1960 and 1970, Nuclear Materials and Equipment Corp. dumped and buried radioactive waste on the 44-acre site along Route 66 near Kiskimere Road.

Officials have said remediation at the site is expected to start in spring 2025 with completion in 2032.

The Army Corps had budgeted $350 million for the project, but, late last year, announced that wouldn’t be enough to finish the cleanup and sought bids for an additional $250 million to $500 million supplemental contract to complete the work.
