A recycling bin sits on the curb for pickup in New Kensington.

Curbside recycling collection will resume in New Kensington on Monday, the city announced Friday.

The city’s public works department collects recycling every other week. Collection had been postponed since mid-March because of the covid-19 pandemic.

The city is asking residents to hold their recycling for 14 days before placing it at the curb if someone in a household has been sick, is quarantined or has tested positive for covid-19.

Residents also are asked to not place possibly contaminated items at the curb.

The city picks up bottles, jars, aluminum and bi-metal cans at the curb. Recycling is to be placed in provided yellow bins the night before scheduled pickup days. Items that won’t fit inside bins can be placed in brown paper bags placed next to the bins.

Newspapers, magazines, paperback books, workbooks and shredded paper can be dropped off in recycling bins at the city garage, 780 Stevenson Blvd.

Cardboard is not being accepted at the garage at this time because it can harbor the virus, city Clerk Dennis Scarpiniti said.
