Ring doorbell, plate readers help police ID woman accused of burglarizing Allegheny Township apartment
An Indiana County woman was accused of breaking into a unit at the Sandalwood Apartments in Allegheny Township and causing nearly $1,300 in damage after a neighbor gave investigators a video clip from a Ring doorbell camera, according to authorities.
Kaeona Janae Booker, 25, of the 1500 block of Route 56 in Center Township was charged with felony counts of burglary and criminal trespass along with counts of criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.
She was charged by summons and ordered to appear for a preliminary hearing before District Judge Cheryl Peck Yakopec on Nov. 28, according to court records.
Police wrote in a criminal complaint that an officer responded to a call shortly before 7 p.m. Sept. 24 for a burglary in progress.
The resident who reported the burglary told police that the woman who broke into their neighbor’s apartment left in a white van with the words “School Students” on the side, the complaint said.
They also had a video clip from a Ring doorbell camera that was shown to the resident of the burglarized apartment, who told police it was Booker, according to the complaint.
Police tracked down Booker by getting the van’s registration information from license plate readers at Hyde Park Road and Sandalwood Drive, which showed that the 2012 Dodge van she was driving was owned by a transportation company, the complaint said.
The items Booker is accused of breaking include a pair of 50-inch TVs, two portable air conditioners and several pieces of furniture.
