A few new faces will be on the November Democratic ballot for Riverview School Board.

Incumbent Bridget Seery, 45, will be joined on the Democratic ballot to compete for four available four-year terms by newcomers Adeshewa Metzger, 44, Chris Conard, 43, and Michael Smales, 41, according to unofficial results.

They will be joined on the November ballot by current board President Wendy Wilton, 52, and newcomer Nick Paradise, 39, who were the only candidates to appear on the Republican ballot.

For Democrats, Seery was the top vote-getter, securing 21% of votes. She was followed by Metzger with 19%; Conard with just under 19% and Smales with 18%.

Seery previously told TribLive funding is the biggest hurdle for the district to overcome. She also said it’s vital for the board to ensure educators can teach content unencumbered.

“Access to information is essential to facilitating the practice of critical thinking,” Seery said. “It is a bedrock of democracy to have an educated and informed public.”

If elected, Metzger plans to defend student rights and their access to age-appropriate books about history and all kinds of people, she said previously.

Conard, an audit executive, hopes to use his work experience to help the district navigate the uncertainties of future federal and state funding.

In a similar vein, Smales told TribLive he intends to explore all solutions to help the district combat anticipated funding changes.
