Riverview School District renews superintendent Neil English's contract
Riverview School Board has renewed Superintendent Neil English’s contract through 2028.
The five-year contract began Aug. 21 and expires June 30, 2028.
English will be paid $145,000 for the current school year and, depending on performance, is eligible for raises of up to 3% in each of the following years.
Board members Jennifer Chaparro, Maureen McClure, Brian Hawk, Antonio Paris, Wendy Wilton and Stefani Garibay voted Monday to renew English’s contract. Melanie Pallone was absent.
Newest board members Ernie Tillman and Kareem Gahed — whose first meeting was Monday — said while they thought the contract looked good, they would abstain from voting because they were not involved in the process.
“It is reassuring to know Dr. English will remain with Riverview for five more years as superintendent,” said Chaparro, the board president. “His steady leadership was instrumental in getting us through several challenging years in public education, and I am pleased to see him continue the mission and vision as outlined in our latest strategic plan.”
No one gave comment opposed to English’s contract.
“I am thankful and honored to continue serving the Riverview community,” English said. “The engagement and enthusiasm I see, from students and parents to the faculty, staff and the board is unparalleled in my career.
“I’m humbled the board has entrusted me with this responsibility for five more years, and I will continue to work tirelessly to help make Riverview the best district it can be.”
English, 48, of Wexford joined Riverview in 2016 as the district’s curriculum coordinator and the Jr.-Sr. High School instructional principal. He was appointed superintendent in 2020, replacing Peggy DiNinno, who retired.
He earned his doctorate degree in educational leadership from the University of Pittsburgh.
He previously worked as an assistant principal for Haddam Killingworth Middle School in Killingworth, Conn., and held administrative positions locally before joining Riverview.
English also taught elementary students in Florida through the National Civilian Community Corps. He also has assisted children in urban schools, disaster relief areas and children’s hospitals in the South.
