Riverview School Board is looking for a new addition.

Applications are being accepted to fill a board vacancy left after Roger Pogoda resigned from his seat. The board approved Pogoda’s resignation during its Jan. 12 meeting.

“This was not an easy decision,” Pogoda said. “I appreciate each and every one of you. … You can’t know if you really like or don’t like something unless you really try it. I can’t do the politics. It’s not in me.”

Pogoda, who was elected in 2023, said he appreciated what he was able to learn from the position and from the other board members. He said he intends to remain active in the school district and community.

Whoever is appointed in his stead will serve through December 2027. The board members who worked with Pogoda were reluctant to see him go.

Board president Anthony Paris thanked Pogoda for the time and effort he gave while serving.

“I think you pushed, myself, I know that, to think of things differently and I appreciate that fully,” Paris said.

Board member Erin Schuetz said she respected Pogoda’s unwavering honesty during his time on the board. She said if they disagreed, they always did so respectfully.

“You really helped me grow as a person,” Schuetz said.

Board member Jen Chaparro echoed Schuetz, saying she respects Pogoda’s candidness and dedication to serve students.

Applicants for the open seat are asked to send a letter of interest and resume, on or before noon Jan. 28 to Riverview School District Board of School Directors, c/o Dr. Neil English, Superintendent, 701 10th St., Oakmont, PA 15139.

According to a district Facebook post, applicants are required to be 18 or older, “of good moral character” and a resident of Riverview School District for at least one year prior to the date of appointment.

Interviews with interested candidates also will be conducted during the board’s work session Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. in the Riverview High School Library. The board is expected to appoint a candidate that day.
