Temporary lane restrictions are set to take effect on Sept. 22 on certain sections of Route 28

Motorists using Route 28 will face several traffic restrictions next week.

Beginning Monday PennDOT will have overnight ramp closures on northbound Route 28 in Etna and Pittsburgh, weather permitting.

To allow guide rail, pavement marking, and sign installation work ramps will close overnight according to the following schedule:

• Northbound Route 28 to 31st Street Bridge (Exit 2): weeknights beginning Monday and continuing through Oct. 3 from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Ramp traffic will be detoured.

• Northbound Route 28 to Route 8 South toward the RD Fleming Bridge/Sharpsburg (Exit 5A): Weeknights beginning Monday through Friday, Sept. 26 from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Ramp traffic will be detoured.

Additionally, the following ramps will have intermittent traffic stoppages each night from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Monday through Friday morning, Sept. 26:

Northbound off-ramp to Chestnut Street, northbound off-ramp to East Ohio Street, northbound off-ramp to 40th Street Bridge/Lawrenceville (Exit 3A), northbound off-ramp to Millvale (Exit 3B), northbound off-ramp to Etna (Exit 4), northbound off-ramp to Highland Park Bridge/Aspinwall (Exit 6).

Southbound off-ramp to I-279 North/East Ohio Street (Exit 1B), southbound off-ramp to Fox Chapel Road/Waterworks Drive/Freeport Road (Exit 8), southbound off-ramp to Harmar/I-76/Route 910 (Exit 11).

Bridge washing restricts lanes

Work crews cleaning bridges along Route 28 will restrict traffic to a single lane on the highway starting next week.

The lane restrictions will take place in both directions of the expressway state route between Monday, Sept. 22 and Wednesday, Oct. 1.

During weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., the restrictions will affect the expressway between the Freeport/Millerstown (Exit 16) and Harmar/I-76/Route 910 (Exit 11) interchanges.

From 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., motorists can expect single-lane traffic between the RIDC Park (Exit 10) and the Harmar/I-76/Route 910 (Exit 11) interchanges.

No work will occur on Saturdays or Sundays.
