Harrison will spend about $423,000 on paving and resurfacing roads and alleys in the township this year.

Township commissioners awarded two contracts for the work Tuesday, at their first in-person meeting at the township building since covid-19 restrictions took effect.

The two contracts combined cover nearly two dozen roads and alleys.

With a price of about $379,190, Shields Asphalt Paving was the lowest of seven bidders for the contract to repair and resurface 16 roads and alleys, commissioners President William Heasley said.

The second contract covers seal coating five alleys. While initially there were two bidders for that work, Heasley said the township ended up with just one because of a discrepancy between the township’s original advertisement and the bid document.

Russell Standard was the lone bidder, at a price of about $43,952.

Heasley said work on the roads and alleys would start as soon as possible. Heasley noted the township has worked with Shields before and had positive results.

“We’re looking forward to it being done and being done the right way,” he said.

Roads included in the 2020 road program are:

• McWilliams Drive, from Springhill Road to new pavement;

• All of Lawest Drive;
