A traffic crossover is scheduled for northbound Route 28 in O’Hara and Harmar this weekend.
Motorists should be aware of the restrictions, which will begin at 8 p.m. Friday, PennDOT announced.
Paving will continue around-the-clock and should wrap up in time for rush hour at 5 a.m. Monday.
Work will target the stretch between Alpha Drive and the Hulton Bridge.
Traffic will be reconfigured on northbound Route 28 so vehicles will cross over into a single southbound lane near the Blawnox ramp (Exit 9). Southbound traffic will remain in a single lane beginning near the Harmar interchange (Exit 11).
Access to RIDC Park (Exit 10) from northbound Route 28, and vice versa, will be closed.
Shortly before the crossover begins, the Fox Chapel off-ramp (Exit 8) is expected to reopen to traffic traveling southbound Route 28. That ramp has been off-limits since July 27 while crews rebuild it.
Construction along Route 28 is part of the $15.32 million project to improve about 3.5 miles of the highway between the Delafield Avenue and the Harmar line.
Work includes minor road widening of the southbound lanes near the Freeport Road on-ramp. The Freeport Road on-ramp to southbound Route 28 will close at 9 a.m. Friday and remain closed through mid-September.
When complete, southbound Route 28 will have two through-lanes and an exit-only off-ramp to Fox Chapel Road.
Work includes reconstruction of the Delafield Avenue ramps, concrete preservation on the Fox Chapel ramps, milling and paving on the RIDC Park ramps and bridge preservation work throughout.
There also are highway lighting upgrades, green stormwater features, new guide rails and rockfall area cleanouts.
The project is expected to be completed at the end of the year.
