The northbound Route 28 off-ramp to The Waterworks near Fox Chapel will close Monday for as long as a month.
Motorists looking to access the shopping plaza along Freeport Road still can use the exit, but they will be forced to turn left and navigate several traffic lights back to Freeport Road.
Work is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m., PennDOT announced.
Crews from Swank Construction Co. will be reconstructing the ramp and paving it.
The project is part of the $15.32 million project to improve a 3.5-mile stretch of Route 28 from the Delafield Avenue exit to the Harmar line.
Work will include minor road widening of the southbound lanes near the Freeport Road on-ramp so there will be two through lanes and an exit-only off-ramp to Fox Chapel Road.
Construction also includes reconstruction of the Delafield Avenue ramps, paving of the RIDC Park ramps and bridge preservation work on all structures within the project.
There also will be new lighting, stormwater features, guardrail upgrades and rockfall area cleanouts.
Single-lane restrictions will occur, but crews will maintain at least two lanes of traffic in each direction during peak travel times and at least one lane in each direction during off-peak hours.
The project is expected to be done by the end of the year.
