A section of Saxonburg Road in Fawn was closed to traffic early Tuesday.
The road was closed in both directions between Route 908 in Fawn and Freeport Road in Harrison, PennDOT said.
PennDOT spokesman Steve Cowan said crews were assessing the situation.
“We are not sure what the issue is exactly at the moment, but it appears to be a sink hole perhaps from a failed pipe,” he said.
Local traffic is being allowed through the area.
