J.J. Novotny, 2, helps his mother, Elizabeth, and father, Josh, create a sawdust carpet to celebrate the Feast of Corpus Christi at Our Lady of Victory Church in Springdale Township on June 12. The centuries-old practice of creating the colorful sawdust carpets was picked up in 1943 at the former Holy Martyrs Church in West Tarentum. After the building was closed last year as part of a merger that created Our Lady of Angels Parish, the celebration was moved to the church in Springdale.
