Larry, John and Paul Linkes, nephews of the late Rudolph “Rudy” Minarcin of North Vandergrift, attend a ceremony Tuesday to rename the Vandergrift Bridge in honor of the Major League Baseball pitcher. Minarcin led his Vandergrift High School baseball team to the 1948 WPIAL championship. He later operated his family’s grocery store, Martin’s Market, retiring in 1995. He died in 2013 at age 83.

The Vandergrift Bridge was renamed the Rudy Minarcin Bridge on Tuesday in honor of local sports legend Rudy Minarcin of Vandergrift. Minarcin was a pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds and the Boston Red Sox.
