Schrock, Doutt win contested seats on New Kensington-Arnold School Board

An incumbent won his fourth term on the New Kensington-Arnold School Board in Tuesday’s election, and four members of a group that banded together to bring change to the board also claimed victories, according to unofficial results.

Cross-filed challenger Terry Schrock collected 39.9% of the votes cast and incumbent Eric Doutt, a Democrat, garnered 31.7% to win the two open seats in Region I, the results showed. Republican Deborah Schreckengost came in third at 28%.

The Region I race was the only contested one for school board.

In Region II, Democrat Tim Beckes and cross-filed candidate Steven Sorch were the only two candidates for two four-year seats, while the cross-filed John DeAntonio was the only candidate for a two-year seat. In Region III, the cross-filed John Cope was the lone candidate for one four-year seat.

Tuesday was a victory for the #Change4NKASD ticket, which supported five candidates, including winners Schrock, Sorch, DeAntonio and Cope. Schreckengost also belonged to the group, which pushed for new voices on the school board. Had Schreckengost won, the group would have represented a majority of the board.

Neither of the winners in Region I could be reached for comment late Tuesday.

Schrock had said before the election that he wanted to use his experience as an attorney to address problems affecting the school district.

Doutt, the police chief in Arnold, had said going into the election that student safety is his top priority.
