Sept. 11 events planned across the region
Several events are planned around the region to commemorate the 24th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks in addition to the ceremonies planned at the National Flight 93 memorial in Somerset County.
Connellsville
Connellsville will host a remembrance ceremony at 7 p.m. Thursday at Veterans Plaza, 168 E. Crawford Ave. Pixel Pro Displays will set up two lights from 7 p.m. to midnight to represent the Twin Towers in New York City.
Harrison
The annual Moving Flag Tribute will be Thursday on Broadview Boulevard in Natrona Heights.
Walkers and runners of all ages will carry American flags from 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the sidewalks from Lamparski Orthodontics to Morgan Street and back. A police flag will move the entire time in memory of fallen Brackenridge Police Chief Justin McIntire and all police officers.

Lower Burrell
A ceremony to honor the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks will be at 8:46 a.m. Thursday at the Lower Burrell American Legion, 1100 Wildlife Lodge Road. Speakers will include Post Commander Larry Peoples, Lower Burrell Mayor Chris Fabry and personnel from Lower Burrell Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 in Kinloch. The public is welcome.
Monroeville
Turtle Creek Valley Rotary will hold a 9/11 Day of Remembrance at noon Friday at the Haymaker Village Plaza, 4500 Broadway Blvd. The event is open to the public, and serves as a way to honor those who lost their lives. The program at Papa Rocks Pizza Pub will be hosted by Rotary President Mike Wargo. Events will include pizza, the Pledge of Allegiance, National Anthem, a review of events leading up to 9/11 and a chronology of the tragic day. Turtle Creek Mayor Adam Forgie will speak about his 9/11 experience as a veteran. Following indoor events, a 21-gun salute, playing of taps and a ceremonial flag folding will be held outside. There is unlimited attendance for the outdoor portion.
