Motorists who travel along northbound Route 28 in O’Hara and Sharpsburg should allow extra time next week.
Single-lane restrictions are scheduled to begin Monday, according to PennDOT. Crews from Swank Construction Company will be installing new signs.
Work will begin at about 7 a.m., just before rush hour, and will be performed around-the-clock through Oct. 21.
The project will target the stretch of Route 28 that sits just before the Highland Park Bridge and goes to Delafield Avenue.
There is another project that requires traffic restrictions from Delafield Avenue to the Blawnox exit.
Work is part of the $15.32 million project to improve about 3.5 miles of Route 28 from Aspinwall to Harmar. It will include minor road widening of the southbound lanes near the Freeport Road on-ramp. It will also include reconstruction of the Delafield Avenue ramps, concrete preservation on the Fox Chapel ramps, paving on the RIDC Park ramps and bridge preservation work throughout.
Lighting upgrades, new stormwater features and rockfall area cleanouts will also be included.
According to PennDOT, single-lane restrictions will occur with crews maintaining at least two lanes of traffic in each direction during peak travel times and at least one lane in each direction during off-peak hours. Ramp closures will occur as needed.
The project is expected to be done by the end of the year.
