Small ATI locomotive leaves tracks but doesn't block Norfolk Southern traffic
A small locomotive used to pull rail cars between ATI’s two plants in Harrison left the tracks Monday.
It was unclear how many people were aboard. No 0ne was injured in the mishap, according to ATI spokeswoman Natalie Gillespie.
The front end of the shifter went off on the side tracks near the Norfolk Southern main tracks in the Karns section of Harrison. The Norfolk Southern main tracks were not blocked.
The tracks are between Karns Road and the Allegheny River.
About 20 minutes after the shifter went off its tracks, a Norfolk Southern train loaded with coal was able to move past it without a problem.
ATI crews worked to make repairs to the front end of the shifter so that it can be towed back to the mill.
Gillespie said ice may have been caused the incident.
Norfolk Southern officials did not return calls for comment.
