Snow day! Plum School District closed Thursday due to weather, playing in snow encouraged
Plum School District will be closed Thursday due to Wednesday’s heavy snowfall.
A message from Superintendent Brendan Hyland about the snow day was posted on the district’s twitter page and newsfeed. The closure was in large part a result of Wednesday’s snow storms.
“Students are directed to close their Chromebooks, go out in the snow, preferably with family, and have a lot of fun,” Hyland’s message read. “We all know that it is very important to feed the mind, but it is just as important to feed the heart and soul. It has been a tough year for our families, and you deserve to have some fun.”
A Message from the Superintendent regarding December 17, 2020
Hello Plum Families, Due to the winter weather that has hit our area over the past 24 hours, the Plum Borough School District will be closed for all students tomorrow, December 17,... https://t.co/NU4mWCvWxr— Plum Borough SD (@plumboroughsd) December 16, 2020
School board President Mike Devine, a father of three children, said late Wednesday that the superintendent made an excellent call to have a snow day, which has likely become a rare event due to most school districts offering remote learning during the pandemic.
“I support this decision 100% as both a board member and father,” Devine said. “These kids have been locked up in the house, working so hard for the past few weeks. Our teachers have been working hard to keep them engaged and learning. Our parents have been working hard to fill in the gaps and help keep their kids on track.
“Winter break is next week, but tomorrow is a day these kids can take off and just be a kid. My kids are so excited to play in the snow tomorrow. This was a great move.”
