Snow in forecast won’t put freeze on St. Patrick’s Day parade Saturday in Lower Burrell

A weekend weather forecast calling for at least several inches of snow won’t be enough to put a damper on the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Lower Burrell, according to organizers.

“A little bit of snow isn’t going to stop the fun,” said Terry McClain, who organized this year’s parade scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m.

“We got a call from the city (Lower Burrell) to make sure the parade was still on. And they told us that if it snows, they will have crews out clearing the streets along the parade route,” he said.

The National Weather Service office in Moon Township said the Pittsburgh area could get at least a few inches of snow by 9 a.m. Saturday, which is the start time for Pittsburgh’s St. Patrick’s Day parade.

McClain got involved in organizing the parade last year after Pittsburgh and other communities canceled their St. Patrick’s Day parades because of the coronavirus pandemic restrictions on large gatherings.

He wasn’t planning to work on the parade this year but said he was approached to organize it again by several of last year’s participants.
