The school year just got a little longer for Fox Chapel Area School District students.
School board members approved tacking on two days of classes for students in kindergarten through 11th grade.
The last day of school will be Tuesday, June 11.
Classes were to end on Friday, June 7, under the original calendar.
It is unclear how the calendar change might affect seniors.
“Communication regarding the seniors’ last day of school will be forthcoming soon,” said Bonnie Berzonski, district coordinator of communications.
High school graduation ceremonies remain unchanged. Commencement will be at 2 p.m. June 9 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum in Pittsburgh’s Oakland section.
The calendar extension is needed to account for snow days that happened on Nov. 16, Jan. 30-31 and Feb. 20.
While the district canceled four days of classes for inclement weather, students need to make up only two. There were 182 days on the original calendar — two more than the state minimum.
Berzonski said June 7 originally was scheduled to be a half-day but is now extended to a full day for students in kindergarten through 11th grade.
Students will get an early dismissal on June 11.
