Springdale is searching for a new manager after Terry Carcella, who had served as manager since last May, resigned ahead of council’s meeting Tuesday night.
Carcella said he submitted his resignation last week but declined to offer a reason for his departure.
He said he did not plan to retire from municipal government, however.
“I’ll be looking for other employment,” Carcella said.
Springdale Councilman Joe Kern said he couldn’t comment on a personnel issue. He said borough office staff would take over the manager’s duties until Springdale finds a new head administrator, which he hopes will be a brief search.
Borough Solicitor Craig Alexander did not respond to a TribLive request for comment.
Carcella took over as manager in late May after Veronica McKay resigned in September 2024.
He brought with him more than four decades of municipal government experience. Before Springdale, Carcella had served as borough manager of Latrobe, where he resides, since 2022.
But Carcella’s tenure was marked by turbulence as Springdale waded into the debate around a massive data center development proposed at the site of the former Cheswick Generating Station and an agreement that allows Springdale Police to cooperate with federal immigration agents.
Both issues have spawned protests outside the borough building and led to several divisive and impassioned council meetings since last fall.
At Tuesday’s meeting, council members said they planned to put together a job description for the borough manager position before advertising for the vacant post.
