Two Springdale police officers soon will be referred to as sergeants.

Council approved the promotions for Paul Perriello and Fred Hockenberry at its meeting Aug. 15.

“I’m just happy that I have a supportive mayor and council. I look forward to bolstering our department and continue to grow it for the needs of our residents here so we can serve them the best we can,” Springdale police Chief Derek Dayoub said.

Dayoub said Perriello has been a borough officer for about 12 years, and Hockenberry has worked for Springdale for about six years.

The elevations were based on both officers passing all testing requirements in accordance with Civil Service rules, which include written and oral exams and an interview with the police chief, Dayoub said. Perriello and Hockenberry were the two highest-scoring candidates, he said.

Perriello and Hockenberry will assume their new duties Sunday, Aug. 27. In their new roles, they will oversee and supervise other officers, Dayoub said.

Mayor Joe Bertoline administered the oath of office to both officers at the meeting.
