Springdale releases survey for future of Veterans Memorial Field
Springdale residents can now offer up ideas for the future of Veterans Memorial Field in a brief survey released by the borough.
The survey is part of an effort by a committee formed by the borough to determine what’s next for the now-vacant property.
While the questionnaire — which asks for answers to eight question — does allow residents to offer more open-ended responses, it mainly asks respondents to offer their feelings about proposals for the site.
Those proposals include the installation of a walking trail, a water feature of some sort or a community space for events like farmers’ markets.
It also asks residents to consider whether the site is important for those of all ages and if the site should “remain a partnership” between Springdale and the Allegheny Valley School District.
The field has been unused since 2023 after unsuccessful lease negotiations between the borough and district, which played its home football games at the site for more than 80 years.
Allegheny Valley completed a new turf field near Springdale Jr.-Sr. High School earlier this year to serve as a home field for its football, soccer, and track and field teams.
The Lower Valley Little League is working with Springdale to allow its youth athletes to utilize the field for part of the year.
The borough’s committee met in September.
Councilman Michael Ziencik said he didn’t yet know how long the survey would remain open, but Springdale Borough Manager Terry Carcella previously said the committee would likely offer its recommendations to council in the new year.
