Springdale to hold line on taxes despite increased expenses

Springdale officials don’t anticipate any tax increase in 2023, even if their proposed budget shows higher expenses than this year.

Springdale’s $2.8 million proposed budget marks an increase of about 17% over the $2.4 million budget in 2022.

“(The increase) was because they want to do waterline projects and get more into the demolitions,” said Veronica McKay, Springdale manager. “There were no tax increases. There was nothing increased. And they’re hiring next year for full-time officers.”

The larger-ticket increases can be seen in the public works department, which has a proposed budget of $525,880, a 23.3% increase. Police salaries and wages also would increase by 13.1% to $496,804.

Members of the public can view the budget in person at the borough building, 325 School St. The board will vote on the budget at 6 p.m. Dec. 20.
