Vendors line Lincoln Avenue for July’s Second Saturdays event in Springdale. Two more are planned for Aug. 13 and Sept. 10.

Springdale residents have a new communitywide event to look forward to as Springdale Council aims to increase summer fun in the town.

The event, dubbed Second Saturdays, will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 13 along the 800 block of Lincoln Avenue. It will feature 30 vendors and is being held alongside Springdale Community Day, which includes a car show from 4 to 8 p.m.

The season’s final Second Saturdays event, which kicked off in July, is planned from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 10.

Councilwoman Brittni Bair said the idea for Second Saturdays stemmed from a need of more community events in the area. She hopes they will become an annual event.

“Community members were itching for something to do and a way to get family and friends out,” Bair said. “I thought this would be a great way to do that.”

Springdale Council, the Springdale Volunteer Fire Department and the Springdale Team of Active Residents (STAR) took feedback from the fire department’s Springdale Jubilee to help think of ways to engage the community.

Bair said planning started before this year’s cancellation of the fire department’s Jubilee carnival after nine decades.

“This type of event is new for us,” she said.

“We are really excited about it,” Bair said. “We are hoping to get bigger and more involved as we go on.”

Debbie Sigmund, a member of STAR, said the group has been in existence for 12 years and works to help enhance the beauty and appeal of Springdale.

Sigmund said the nonprofit looks forward to collaborating with council and the fire department to provide more communitywide summer events.

“We are excited about doing something in Springdale to bring everyone together,” Sigmund said.

Vendors are still being sought for the Second Saturdays events. Bair said the event is looking for six to eight farm stands and five to 10 food trucks.
