Springdale Township plans to use a $35,000 state grant to demolish three blighted houses this year.

The demolitions haven’t been scheduled. The township is waiting for results from asbestos testing of the three houses to determine where asbestos removal will be necessary, according to Robert Roach, a project manager with Senate Engineering Co.

Allegheny County paid for the testing.

The homes targeted for demolition are at 313 Spring St.., 112 High St. and 723 Center St., Roach said.

The planned project is one of two being paid for by grants from a state Community Development Block Grant awarded last year.

The other CDBG grant, for $20,330, paid for a drainage project on High Street that was completed late last year. Separately, plans are in the works to repave at least part of High Street, Commissioners President Anthony Rozzano said.
