Springdale Township’s commissioners Thursday approved a 2024 spending plan that includes no tax increase for property owners but taps into the township’s reserves for it to be balanced.

The budget anticipates $2.3 million in expenses, but only $1.7 million in revenue. Township savings will cover the roughly $600,000 deficit, said Tim Basilone, vice president of the board of commissioners.

The millage rate will remain at 6.5 mills. A median property value in Springdale Township is $76,900, and a property owner with that value will pay about $500 to the township in 2024.

Basilone said the township will study ways to cut costs throughout 2024.

About $100,000 in the budget is due to inflation. Other expenditures include $500,000 designated for street paving and waterline replacement projects.

The township’s 2024 share to the Allegheny Valley Regional Police Department is $263,400, about a $26,000 increase from 2023. Springdale Township, East Deer and Cheswick make up the regional police force.

The budget passed in a 4-0 vote. Commissioners Basilone, Mariana Burns, Brad Stanzione and Rick Schwartz voted to approve the budget; Anthony Rozzano was absent.
