UPMC St. Margaret plans to move its family health center in New Kensington from city hall to a new building on Fifth Avenue, the hospital’s foundation announced Tuesday.

The St. Margaret Foundation announced a $3.4 million capital campaign for the health center’s new home. The foundation said it has raised $3 million, leaving $400,000 to be raised.

“The local foundation community, corporations, nonprofits, organizations and individuals are diligently working together to say to the people of New Kensington, ‘You matter,’” St. Margaret Foundation President Mary Lee Gannon said.

The proposed site for the New Kensington Family Health Center is a vacant lot at 1080 Fifth Ave.

The family health center has been in city hall for 19 years and occupies about a third of the building. Services include primary care, obstetrics, pediatrics, behavioral health and treatment for opioid use.

Mayor Tom Guzzo could not be reached for comment Tuesday.

The new building will increase the center’s space from 4,700 square feet to 8,000 square feet, according to the foundation.

A grand opening is planned for spring 2021.

Major donors so far have included the St. Margaret Foundation, Richard King Mellon Foundation, UPMC, Staunton Farm Foundation, the Walter and Merriam Modell Memorial Fund of The Pittsburgh Foundation, Hearst Foundations and private donors.
