Leechburg River Rescue team searches for a missing man Sunday afternoon in the Allegheny River.

A search for a missing man along the Allegheny River near several campsites in Gilpin ended with no results Sunday.

Multiple organizations including state police Kittanning barracks, police and firefighters from Gilpin, firefighters from Leechburg, Vandergrift and North Apollo along with Greensburg bloodhounds were out from 1 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. looking for Nathan “Nate” Lauer, 38, of Punxsutawney.

It was about 36 hours since his disappearance.

According to state police, a friend last saw Lauer swimming in the Allegheny River around 7:30 a.m. Saturday near his camp on Upper Allegheny Drive.

There are about 50 campsites along the river.

Gilpin police Chief Chris Fabec said teams focused on the northern end of the campgrounds.

“We had some good guidance with the canines, but other than that we had no other leads that would suggest where he is or where he isn’t,” he said.

Fabec said officials will discuss how to allocate resources and possible resume the search Monday. State police are investigating.

State police had no updates on the search early Monday morning.

Lauer was described as a white, about 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing about 200 pounds with blond hair and blue eyes.

According to state police, Lauer was last seen wearing black basketball shorts, no shirt, and possibly black shoes or was barefoot.

Anyone with information as to his whereabouts should contact state police at 724-543-2011.
