Students at East Union Intermediate Center in West Deer honor veterans with a day of service

Isabella Kee, 10, along with her grandfather, Glenn Hofer of O’Hara, a Marine Corps veteran, collect items Friday to pack gift bags that will be delivered to a veterans home in Butler. The event was part of a day of service to thank local veterans at East Union Intermediate Center in the Deer Lakes School District.

Aaron Smith of Brackenridge, an Army veteran, is greeted during a parade of honor Friday at East Union Intermediate Center. He was invited by Gannon Richard, 10, whom he coaches in wrestling, to participate in a day of service at the school to thank local veterans.

Robert Dissinger, 78, of Falmouth, Lancaster County, and an Air Force veteran who served during the Vietnam War, is greeted by third graders while his 10-year-old grandson, Teagan Dickson, a fifth grader, stands behind him to the right. He was one of 14 visiting veterans who participated in a parade of honor Friday as part of a day of service at East Union Intermediate Center.
