A Tarentum man faces felony charges after a resident told police the man came into his apartment late Tuesday, threatened to kill the people inside and then stole a computer.

Brian Lamont Kellum, 44, of the 100 block of Second Avenue, was charged with felony counts of burglary and criminal trespass, along with charges of making terroristic threats.

Kellum was released from custody on a nonmonetary bond and is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing before District Judge Carolyn Bengel on Feb. 22.

Police said a man came to the Tarentum police station about 11:40 p.m. Tuesday to report that a man known as “BK” or “Freedom” who lives in a nearby apartment came into his home and threatened to kill him and his mother, according to a criminal complaint.

The man told police BK took his Apple iPad as he was leaving the apartment.

Police wrote in the complaint that officers were familiar with a man known as BK from previous encounters and identified him as Kellum.

Allegheny County Housing Authority police were able to retrieve surveillance video from the area that showed a man entering an elevator who fit the description provided by the resident, the complaint said.

Police were able to use the video to positively identify the man who entered the resident’s apartment, authorities said.

In October, Kellum pleaded guilty to a felony count of possession of drugs with the intent to deliver and was sentenced to 23 months in jail, according to court records. The charge was filed by New Kensington police in September 2021.

Kellum pleaded guilty in March to a simple assault charge filed by Tarentum police in June 2021 and was sentenced to nine to 18 months in jail, court records show.
