A Tarentum man is accused of beating his 3-year-old son with a belt because he soiled his diaper.
Andre Coral Stanford Jr., 36, of East Street faces a felony charge of endangering the welfare of children and a misdemeanor charge of simple assault.
A warrant was issued for his arrest this week. As of Thursday afternoon, he had not been arrested.
Allegheny County Police said they received a ChildLine allegation of physical child abuse last November. The complaint came after the child was taken to Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital in Greensburg with bruises on his lower legs, buttocks and lower back, according to the criminal complaint.
Attending medical personnel told police the child told them that his father beat him with a belt because he soiled his diaper, the complaint said.
During an April interview at A Child’s Place Child Advocacy Center in Westmoreland County, the child said he didn’t like his father beating him and that it left marks on his body. The child also said his father had beaten him with a belt in the bathroom because he had soiled his underwear and had threatened him with another beating if it happened again, according to the complaint.
Allegheny County Police Inspector Andrew Schurman said the department investigates all Childline claims.
He said investigating such cases can be time consuming, and scheduling the involved people for interviews is dependent on the parents’ schedule. If a claim is substantiated, police will file charges.
