Tarentum officials are remembering the borough’s longtime public works director for his staunch commitment to town.

Mark Anuszek, 55, died Tuesday following a brief illness.

“For 35 years, Mark was an unwavering pillar of our community,” the borough posted to social media. “He was not just a dedicated public servant but a friend, mentor and trusted partner to so many.”

Borough leaders recalled Anuszek for his passion, calling him a backbone of the borough.

“Mark grew up in Tarentum and served the town and our citizens his entire life,” Council President Scott Dadowski said. “Everyone that came into contact with Mark knew instantly what a great and genuine man he was.

“The borough lost a great man and I, like many, lost a great friend.”

Anuszek, a Highlands High School graduate, was a member of Guardian Angels Parish in Harrison. He also was a member of the Tarentum Eagles, Summit Hose Fire Department and a former part-time police officer.

Summit Hose will hold services at 7 p.m. Friday at Duster Funeral Home.

Chief Josh Fox said Anuszek was a life member of the fire department.

He served as past president and assistant chief and took the lead on many fundraisers through the years.

“He was a fun guy to be around,” Fox said. “He liked to joke around and left an everlasting impact on the department.”

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2025, at Duster Funeral Home, 347 E. 10th Ave., Tarentum. A Christian funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Most Blessed Sacrament Church, Natrona Heights, Harrison. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Lower Burrell.
